Spaghetti Bolognese
Spaghetti Bolognese is a hearty pasta dish made with spaghetti and a rich meat-and-tomato sauce.
Ingredients
Serves 4
For the Sauce
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 carrot, finely chopped
- 250–300g ground beef
- 1 cup tomato puree or crushed tomatoes
- 2 tbsp tomato paste
- 1 tsp oregano
- 1 tsp basil
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- 1/2 tsp chili flakes (optional)
- 1/2 cup water or stock
For the Pasta
- 250g spaghetti
- Water for boiling
- Salt
For Serving
- Grated Parmesan cheese
- Fresh parsley or basil
Instructions
- Heat oil in a pan and sauté onion, garlic, and carrot until soft.
- Add ground beef and cook until browned.
- Stir in tomato puree, tomato paste, herbs, salt, pepper, and water.
- Simmer for 20–30 minutes until thick and flavorful.
- Meanwhile, boil spaghetti in salted water until al dente.
- Drain pasta and combine with sauce or serve sauce on top.
- Garnish with cheese and herbs.
Variations
- Use chicken mince instead of beef.
- Add mushrooms or bell peppers.
- Make it spicy with extra chili flakes.
- Use whole wheat spaghetti for a healthier version.
