Here’s a simple and tasty way to make fried potatoes with onions:
Ingredients
- 3–4 medium potatoes (peeled and sliced or cubed)
- 1 large onion (thinly sliced)
- 3–4 tbsp oil (vegetable or olive oil)
- 1 tsp salt (adjust to taste)
- ½ tsp black pepper
- ½ tsp red chili flakes (optional)
- ½ tsp turmeric (optional, for color)
- Fresh coriander (optional, for garnish)
Instructions
- Prep the potatoes
Slice or cube the potatoes evenly so they cook at the same rate. Rinse and pat them dry. - Heat the oil
In a large pan, heat oil over medium heat. - Cook the potatoes first
Add potatoes and fry for about 8–10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they start turning golden. - Add onions
Toss in the sliced onions and mix well. - Season
Add salt, pepper, chili flakes, and turmeric if using. - Cook until done
Keep frying on medium to low heat, stirring occasionally, until potatoes are crispy outside and soft inside, and onions are caramelized (about 10–15 more minutes). - Garnish & serve
Sprinkle fresh coriander on top and serve hot.
Tips
- Don’t overcrowd the pan—this helps crispiness.
- Cover the pan for a few minutes if you want softer potatoes, then uncover to crisp them up.
