Here’s a classic Turkish bread (soft, fluffy pide-style) recipe you can easily make at home:
🫓 Turkish Bread (Pide) Recipe
Ingredients
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup warm water (not hot)
- 2 tsp sugar
- 2 tsp instant yeast
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 egg yolk (for brushing)
- 1 tbsp yogurt (optional, for softer texture)
- Sesame seeds or nigella seeds (optional, for topping)
Instructions
1. Activate the yeast
In a bowl, mix warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5–10 minutes until it becomes foamy.
2. Make the dough
Add flour, salt, olive oil, and yogurt (if using). Mix and knead for about 8–10 minutes until you get a soft, slightly sticky dough.
3. First rise
Cover the dough and let it rest in a warm place for 1–1.5 hours, or until it doubles in size.
4. Shape the bread
- Preheat oven to 220°C.
- Punch down the dough and shape it into a round or oval flatbread.
- Place it on a baking tray lined with parchment.
- Use your fingers to gently press a pattern (dimples or crisscross lines).
5. Add topping
Mix egg yolk with a little yogurt or water and brush over the dough. Sprinkle sesame or nigella seeds.
6. Bake
Bake for 12–15 minutes until golden brown on top.
Serving Ideas
- Serve warm with butter, cheese, or curry
- Great with kebabs or dips like hummus
- Can be used for sandwiches
Tips
- For extra softness, brush with a little butter right after baking
- Place a small bowl of water in the oven to create steam (gives bakery-style texture)
